Trimersion Virtual Reality Game System
Description of Operation
The Trimersion VR Game System was designed as a Virtual Reality Game Peripheral and intended to enhance the experience of video gaming. Though it is intended to be used with most major game platforms it cannot alter the function and performance of the game platform. The Trimersion gun controller is configured so the player can operate the game without having to look for the required controls and is set up to match most First Person Shooter (FPS) Games with as little set up as possible. Depending on the game some remapping of the controls may be required. Adjustment of the game system may also be required, but we have tried to keep these adjustments to a minimum. For more information on this function refer to section “Macro Assignment Instructions”. Although Trimersion was intended to be uses as a FPS game peripheral it can also be used for other types of games or as a video viewer to enhance the experience. The motion tracker on Trimersion monitors the motion of your head and body and translates the motions to the function of the look joystick on a game controller. The motion tracking system contained in the Trimersion Head Mounted display (HMD) utilizes the latest in motion monitoring technology but depending on the game performance and platform function some manual adjustments may be required during the course of game play. This can be accomplished by using the alternate joystick or level view control located on the gun controller. This enables the user to play the game without being forced to assume an uncomfortable position. These adjustments can be made on the fly and seldom affects the ability of the player.

BASE STATION works with a PC or Mac USB, Playstation 1&2, Xbox and Game Cube game consoles
BASE STATION has video through (IN/OUT) for connecting a TV while TRIMERSION is in use GUN CONTROLLER and HMD run on (4) AA Batteries – Recommend to use 2000 mAh or above Ni-MH battery for stable performance of game play.
To make it easier to setup the Trimersion when hooking it to a console game system, start the game as normal with the original controller then when the game is going, unplug the controller, plug in the Trimersion base station to the controller port then turn on the gun. Do not plug in the USB connector into anything but a computer USB port. Even though game consoles have USB connectors on them; the one on the base station is not intended to be used for that purpose, only the controller connectors.
Your computer must have a NTSC (OR PAL) video out jack – hook up supplied RCA cable to VIDEO OUT and other end to VIDEO IN on Base Station. Plug in a Mini Stereo to RCA adapter to AUDIO OUT on computer and the other end to the RCA jacks of Left and Right AUDIO IN.
If your computer doesn’t have a NTSC (OR PAL) VIDEO OUT RCA JACK, please purchase a VGA to NTSC converter.
If you would like to see the same video that is displayed in the HMD, connect a TV to the VIDEO OUT on the BASE STATION.
Plug USB connector from BASE STATION into USB jack on computer.
Computer recognizes the BASE STATION as a keyboard and mouse.
Power to the BASE STATION comes from USB connector.
Turn the POWER SWITCH on the GUN CONTROLLER to “ON”
To verify the HMD and the GUN are communicating properly with the BASE STATION the LINK light on the BASE STATION and the POWER light on the GUN will be solid green. If the LINK light and the POWER light are flashing, theBASE STATION is not communicating with the GUN CONTROLLER and the HMD. Turn the power switch on the Gun Controller off and power on again. The recommended working range between Base Station and HMD is 3 to 5 meters.
POWER LED has three indication modes except the Macro Mode (See MACRO ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS).
STEADY ON – Connected to BASE STATION
SLOW FLASH – Low battery
FAST FLASH – Connecting to BASE STATION
Pick up the HMD and rotate it, the cursor on the PC screen should move in the same direction.
To verify correct operation of the GUN CONTROLLER, open a program like “Notepad” and push buttons on the gun, you will see characters typed across the screen.
Start the First Person Shooter (FPS) game.
The default GUN CONTROLLER macro is preset.
If you need a different configuration you have two options:
Change the preset macros by following the MACRO ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS.
Open the keyboard binding menu in the software configuration menu of your FPS game and manually program each button.
The Mouse Look function of the FPS game will function with the movement of the HMD the same way it does by using a mouse. The TRIMERSION Base Station will not interrupt the mouse or keyboard functionality but will work in combination with it.
FOR XBOX, PLAYSTATION OR GAME CUBE GAME CONSOLE CONNECTION
Plug VIDEO and LEFT and RIGHT AUDIO OUT from the Game Console to the VIDEO and LEFT and RIGHT AUDIO IN on the back of the BASE STATION.
If you would like to see the same video that is displayed in the HMD, connect a TV to the VIDEO OUT on the BASE STATION.
Plug the appropriate GAME CONTROLLER connector from BASE STATION into the GAME CONTROLLER port on the game console.
Power to the BASE STATION comes from GAME CONTROLLER port on the game console system.
The GUN CONTROLLER has all the same buttons as the game console gamepad controller.
Turn the POWER SWITCH on the GUN CONTROLLER to “ON”.
To verify the HMD and the GUN are communicating properly with the BASE STATION the LINK light on the BASE STATION and the POWER light on the GUN will be solid green. If the LINK light and the POWER light are flashing theBASE STATION is not communicating with the GUN CONTROLLER and HMD. Turn the power switch on the Gun Controller off and power on again.
The recommended working range between Base Station and HMD is 3 to 5 meters.
POWER LED has three indication modes except the Macro mode (See MACRO ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS)
STEADY ON – Connected to BASE STATION
SLOW FLASH – Low battery
FAST FLASH – Connecting to BASE STATION
Start the First Person Shooter (FPS) game.
The default GUN CONTROLLER macro is preset for most FPS games. If you need a different configuration you have two options:
Change the preset macros by following the MACRO ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS.
Open the gamepad button binding menu in the software configuration menu of your FPS game and manually program each button.
The Mouse Look or “look around” function of the FPS game should function with the movement of the HMD the same way it does by using a joystick or mouse.
ADJUSTMENT CONTROLS for the HMD are located on the bottom of the unit. Adjustments for VOLUME, CONTRAST and BRIGHTNESS are available.
The TRACKER ON/OFF switch controls the functionality of the GYRO Motion Tracker in the HMD. This is useful for troubleshooting the device or using the HMD as a video viewer only.
Video Channel Selector:
The Trimersion is capable of using 1 of 4 different video channel frequencies. If you are running multiple TRIMERSIONS with in range of each other, you can set each unit on a different frequency.
To change the frequency set the DIP switches on the HMD and BASE STATION to the same number.
The tracker is initialized in manufacturing. If any problem has occurred on the tracker, or the HMD and the Gun Controller are not the original pair from one package, you need to reset the tracker.
1.
Make sure the POWER on the Gun Controller is at the OFF position and the Gun Controller is properly connected with the HMD.
2.
Press and hold the MACRO and SELECT buttons at the same time and slide the POWER switch to ON position, the LED light on the Gun Controller flash slowly to quickly.
3.
Release the MACRO and SELECT buttons and press the M.CLEAR button on the Gun Controller once, the LED light on the Gun Controller and the TRACKER LED light on the HMD are illuminated, tracker is reset successfully.
4.
the Power Switch “Off” Then “ON”. The unit is now ready
NOTE: The HMD must sit level and “TOP UP” WITHOUT MOVING as its power turned ON in HMD TRACKER RESET.
If you are getting static lines in the HMD LCDs and a pulsing sound in the headphones, make sure you turn off any radio interference or wireless communications sources near the Trimersion visor.
Known interference can be caused by Wi-fi enabled laptops and network hubs and some cell phones and PDAs and any 2.4G wireless electronics devices.
One solution is to change to an alternate RF frequency using the VIDEO CHANNEL SELECTOR instructions.
If the POWER LED on the gun flashes slowly or the LCD display in the HMD has no picture but you still have audio, it normally is an indication that the batteries are low. Replace or re-charge batteries in the Gun Controller.
The tracker in HMD may not compatible with some games. It depends on the game itself.
You may have to remap the game controls to match the Gun Controller and HMD.
Do not place the Base Station on the game console. This may cause video interference.
It’s better to keep the space between the Gun Controller and the Base Station clear.
If you are using more than one Trimersion system next to each other you should connect the base station and turn on the Gun Controller one at a time.
Do not exchange the HMDs or Gun Controllers. The Tracker Calibration memory is stored in the Gun Controller. If the HMD is swapped or the tracker begins to drift refer to the section. “HMD Tracker Reset”
Power consumption: All Power Supply Voltage: DC5V
Power consumption:
1. Total (GUN+HMD): 2.65W max
HMD: 2.4W max
GUN: 0.25W max
